Congratulations to S. Liliana Oakes, MD, a 2024 Women Leaders in Medicine honoree chosen by the Bexar County Medical Society. Dr. Oakes is medical director, Supportive Care in Greater Texas, which includes Austin, San Antonio, El Paso, Rio Grande Valley and Corpus Christi. She also continues to see patients in San Antonio, visiting them and their family members in skilled nursing facilities, inpatient hospitals, subspeciality clinics and at their homes.

A native of Bogota, Colombia, Dr. Oakes served as a surgeon at the National University of Colombia before moving to San Antonio, Texas, to complete her residency in family medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center (UT Health).

Following residency, Dr. Oakes served as a faculty member at UT Health for 10 years and is a former associate professor. She also served as the geriatrics fellowship director and director of the multidisciplinary training program in geriatrics and gerontology at Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Administration. She joined WellMed in 2014 to co-lead the supportive care program.

Dr. Oakes will be recognized at the BCMS 2024 Women Leaders in Medicine event September 18.
