We kick off the New Year with two healthcare recognitions: National Pharmacist Day on January 12th, and National Medical Group Practice Week, January 22 – 26.
National Pharmacist Day
Derived from eastern hemisphere and Native American medicine, Pharmacy in the United States has grown over the centuries into a skilled blend of chemical science and healthcare science field of modern-day healthcare.
With the founding of the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy on March 13, 1821 during a meeting of apothecaries in Carpenter’s Hall, and the subsequent forming of the American Pharmaceutical Association (APhA) in Philadelphia from October 6 to 8, 1852, the cornerstone was laid from which the pharmacy industry would evolve into a vast network of inpatient, outpatient, compounding, internet pharmacies and many other pharmaceutical platforms in our healthcare system.
On January 12th, take this day to recognize and honor our WellMed pharmacists and the many other pharmacists in the U.S. for their outstanding contributions to our patients and our society.
National Medical Group Practice Week
We also celebrate our entire WellMed organization during National Medical Group Practice Week from January 22 – 26.
Dr. George M. Rapier III founded WellMed in 1990 as a single clinic in the Medical Center area of San Antonio, Texas. His idea was simple: deliver proactive, preventive care and build strong relationships with his senior patients. He believed that if he could keep his patients healthy instead of responding to symptoms after they become ill, then he could positively affect their quality of life and prevent complications and lengthy hospital stays.
Today, WellMed is a network of doctors, specialists and other medical professionals that specialize in providing care for 320,000+ older adults with over 14,000 doctors’ offices in Texas and Florida.
During National Medical Group Practice Week, we recognize our entire WellMed team for providing outstanding care for all our patients every day.
