Congratulations to Dr. Elizabeth Glazier, WellMed chief of supportive care. She was recently selected as a 2024 Visionary Award recipient in hospice and palliative medicine by the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM).

Dr. Glazier was selected because of her pioneering work and dedication to the field of palliative care medicine. In her current role, she developed and implemented the outpatient home visiting and clinic palliative care programs more than 10 years ago. Under her leadership, supportive care is one of the most successful ventures for WellMed, resulting in increased patient and family satisfaction and decreased unnecessary hospitalizations.

Dr. Glazier was awarded the prestigious Health Care Hero award by the SA Business Journal in 2017 in the category Outstanding Physician, Non-Hospital Based. She was also recognized in 2020 by the OptumCare Physician Partnership Forum for their Values in Action Award-Leadership. This award is presented to one valued leader across all of the OptumCare organizations nationally. She was named Outstanding Mother of 2022 in the Women We Admire Magazine and was named the 2022 Palliative Care Champion by the Bexar County Medical Society. She has presented at national conferences, to include AMGA, AGS and CAPC and has been published in The Washington Post, Annals of Internal Medicine and Journal of the American Geriatrics Society. She also chairs the Optum Supportive Care Advisory Council to move Supportive and Palliative Care across the nation for OptumCare and UnitedHealth Group.
